Onward represents the first in a series of volumes, publishing photographs of members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Each volume contains over 4000 individual portraits drawn from a variety of sources, with the emphasis being on obtaining the highest quality images available. The photographs are presented alphabetically, and are simply titled with the subjects name, service number and the photograph's source.

It is produced in A4 soft cover, 470 pages of high-quality 113gsm paper and perfect bound.
